Katahdin Federal Credit Union was originally chartered sixty years ago, in 1954, as a single employer credit union for Great Northern Paper. Since that time, KFCU has expanded from a single sponsor credit union to a community based institution serving Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties and parts of southern Aroostook County. Since its inception, Katahdin Federal has always gone above and beyond to serve the people of the region and today its staff continues to go the extra mile for its’ members!

At Katahdin Federal Credit Union, you can sleep well knowing your money is safe and secure. Your account is insured for up to $250,000 per member account and an additional $250,000 per member IRA account by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the Federal government.

Eligibility Requirements

Persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Penobscot County or Piscataquis County, or the towns of Amity, Bancroft, Cary Plantation, Crystal, Dyer Brook, Glenwood Plantation, Haynesville, Hersey, Hodgdon, Houlton, Island Falls, Linneus, Littleton, Macwahoc Plantation, Merrill, Moro Plantation, New Limerick, Oakfield, Orient, Reed Plantation, Sherman, Smyrna Mills, South Aroostook Unorganized Territories, or Weston, Maine and also included are spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of the credit union, employees of this credit union, volunteers in the community, members of their immediate family or household, and organizations of such persons.

Those who meet the eligibility requirements may join the Credit Union.
