Help reduce fraud and monitor your spending anytime, anywhere with Alerts from Katahdin Federal Credit Union powered by Visa.

With near real-time Alerts powered by Visa, you can receive updates on your Visa® card activity. And this unique service is available free for KFCU Visa cardholders.

After your Visa card has been used, you’ll receive an alert through email. If there is fraudulent activity, you can find out within minutes and act quickly to resolve the situation.

How you use the service is up to you. You can choose to receive alerts when your Visa card is used for purchases over a specified amount, online transactions, purchases outside the United States, and more. You can even customize the purchase amount threshold—for example, setting it to only receive alerts for purchases above $50.

Each alert contains important information, including the purchase amount, merchant name and location (if available), and the last [four] digits of the Visa card used to keep you best informed.

Tips for Using Your Visa® Card While Traveling

Packing your suitcases for your next vacation....make sure to bring your Visa® card with you. To make the most of your Visa® card(s) while traveling, please follow these simple steps:

  • Notify KFCU of the countries you’ll be traveling to and the dates you’ll be traveling on before you leave.
  • Only carry the cards that you may need just in case they are lost or stolen.
  • Check with your credit union on daily spending or withdrawal restrictions while abroad.
  • Be sure you know your PIN for your Visa® card so you can get local currency from ATMs worldwide.
  • To ensure your PIN is always safe, you should memorize it and never write it down.
  • Make a record of your Visa® account and telephone numbers for reporting lost or stolen cards (including international Visa Global Customer Assistance Services numbers found at www.usa.visa .com) and keep it in a safe place away from your wallet or handbag.

General Tips for Using Your VISA® Card

  • Don’t leave cards in your car. Many credit and debit cards are stolen from unattended vehicles in parking lots.
  • Never sign a blank receipt. If spaces have been left blank, draw a line through them before signing.
  • Don’t keep your PIN with your card.
  • Don’t give out your card number over the phone unless you have initiated the call. Remember, credit union staff will never call you and ask for personal information, including your card number.
  • Do compare your receipts with your monthly statements.
  • If you don’t receive your statement on time, please call KFCU immediately. An identity thief may have taken over your account.
  • Do look for a lock icon or the prefix of https: in the browser status bar when purchasing online. This indicates that the site encrypts your financial data before transmitting it.
  • Do notify your card issuer if you plan a larger than usual purchase. KFCU uses extra fraud prevention measures and if a purchase is made outside of your normal spending behaviors, the charge may be declined.

Stolen or Lost Card

If your card is lost or stolen, contact us immediately. Call KFCU during normal business hours at 800-451-9145. To report a card lost or stolen after business hours, please call 800-237-6211 for Classic or 1-800-847-2911 for Gold and follow the prompts.
